What is Game of Thrones?

In the four years since Game of Thrones premiered, phrases like "winter is coming" and "valar morghulis" have entered the American lexicon, leaving fans eager for the Sunday-night show full of backstabbing, bloodletting, and fiery dragons. Game of Thrones is an HBO series that tells the story of a medieval country's civil war. The series, which premiered in April 2011, is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos in a world where seasons stretch on for years. When the story begins, a decade-long summer is ending, and winter looms as characters battle to claim the "Iron Throne," the seat of the king of the Seven Kingdoms, the regime that rules all but the northern tip of Westeros. In show parlance, "sit on the Iron Throne" is a metonym equivalent to "rule Westeros."

The show is divided into three major plot lines. The first covers the battle between the lords of the continent of Westeros — most notably members of the Baratheon, Lannister, and Stark families — who are involved in the fight for the Iron Throne. The second follows the rise of Daenerys Targaryen, the last member of an exiled family as she builds an army in Essos to reclaim the throne. The third plot takes place in the North of Westeros among the Night's Watch, an armed unit that guards the 300-mile-long, 70-foot-tall wall that protects the rest of the continent from the mythical creatures that lurk there.

Daenerys Targaryen Returns to the Seven Kingdoms to reclaim the Iron Throne in the name of her Targaryen family. Portrayed by Emilia Clarke.	Jon Snow Bastard son of Ned Stark and raised at Winterfell on near equal terms with the Stark siblings. Portrayed by Kit Harrington.	Cersei Lannister Queen of the Seven Kingdoms and wife of King Robert. Fiercely protective of her 3 children and unusually close with twin brother, Jaime. Portrayed by Lena Headey.


Tyrion Lannister Called "The Imp," because of his small stature. The youngest son of Tywin. What he lacks in height, he makes up in wit. Portrayed by Peter Dinklage.	Sansa Stark Ned and Cat's oldest daughter. Demure and ladylike, her dream is to marry Prince Joffrey. Portrayed by Sophie Turner.	Arya Stark The younger of Ned and Cat's two daughters. A tomboy, she would rather fence than dance. Portrayed by Maisie Williams.

Game of Thrones Is the Greatest TV Show of the 21st Century According to New Poll

A new poll has named HBO's Game of Thrones as the greatest TV show of the 21st century. For years, the fantasy series, which is based on author George R.R. Martin's novels, was a dominant force in pop culture. However, a shaky and controversial final season seemed to tarnish, in some way, the show's legacy. Be that as it may, viewers have voted and GoT came out on top, besting the likes of Stranger Things and Breaking Bad to land at number one.

The poll took in nearly 3,000 votes, with Game of Thrones besting the competition. The series made its debut in 2011 and quickly became a monstrous hit with both critics and viewers. Its popularity only grew in the ensuing years, ending up as one of the most-watched shows worldwide. The show ran for a total of eight seasons and more than 70 episodes. However, season 8 managed to serve as a deeply unsatisfying end for many fans, with creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss coming under fire for the storytelling choices.

Ultimately, at least in the eyes of the fans who voted in this poll, a questionable final season wasn't enough to erase the show's legacy entirely. Coming in just behind Game of Thrones was Netflix's massive sci-fi hit Stranger Things. The show had somewhat humble beginnings as an 80s throwback that has since blossomed into a pop culture monster. Season 4 is currently in the works and is waiting in the wings to start production again once it is safe to do so. Doctor Who, which was given a modern makeover beginning in 2005 courtesy of Steven Moffat, came in at number three.

I`m so happy with the beautiful dvd set I received!! I read reviews before I purchased, but did not find them helpful, I hope this helps someone as this is an expensive purchase. It is a beautiful library set, completely authentic and will be a great addition to your library so you can feel happy when ordering this!

I can confirm this bluray collection comes with 33 discs-matching the collectors edition box set. This includes the reunion specials etc. Will update when i get the chance.

Update: I have confirmed the 3 bonus discs included in the collectors edition are also included which is really amazing. It includes VFX breakdowns, 44 minute animated film about Aegons rise and fall (a must watch). Also the reunion hosted by Conan. Additionally the bonus discs include more behind the scenes with the visual commentary by George R. R. Martin himself and deleted scenes.

For someone who hasn’t seen “Game of Thrones”, I was really interested in getting into this show since The Walking Dead was a show I got binge a few years ago on Netflix. This Blu-Ray set contains all 8 seasons of GOT, including two bonus discs and a digital copy code to redeem on iTunes, Vudu and Google Play. Yes, I heard the final season was rushed and wasn’t all that good, but for someone who hasn’t seen this show at all, go buy this set and own one of the best TV series of all time! Can’t wait to watch this on Christmas ‘cause WINTER IS COMING!
